Introduced to performing arts through elementary school choir, musical theater, and band, Tom selected the trumpet as his initial musical voice shortly before junior high. Since then, he has earned a bachelor's degree in music from San José State University and a Master's Degree in music from the University of Southern California.

He has studied music composition with Neal Desby and Dan Wyman and has a Graduate Certficate in Film Scoring from UCLA.

Currently, Tom is a composer, orchestrator, and trumpet artist based in the Los Angeles area. He has served in the music department for film and documentary projects as well as performed in recording session environments. He has written music for several short festival films, for concert ensembles, and for competitive marching bands.
